This Yucca Shampoo with Oat Protein is made from natural cleansing plants
combined with the gentlest biodegradable synthetic detergents I could find. It
is for hair that for dry, color treated, long or damaged hair.

Inspired by the beauty of the Navajo people and the healthiness of their hair,
I turned to Yucca root as a natural and traditional hair cleanser to be the
base of my hybrid shampoo. Yucca, along with Soapwort, Soap Nuts (Soap Berries,
Sapindus mukorossi), Shikakai & Green Tea all supply natural saponins and are
each traditional hair cleansers of people who culturally have perhaps the most

As a natural and gentle hair cleanser, this shampoo is the result of my desire
to use a shampoo that is natural but is good for my hair as well. I tried
liquid soaps like Dr. Bronners and found that they were too harsh and drying
for my hair because of their high Ph. If I lower the Ph, these kinds of
shampoos based on liquid soap, separates into something that does not wash hair.

This shampoo is made from natural cleansing plants combined with the gentlest
biodegradable synthetic detergents I could find. This shampoo is a hybrid for
those of us who want to use a natural shampoo, need a gentle shampoo, want to
avoid unnecessary chemicals and want their hair to look and feel good. With
this formula, I blend the ancient cleansing of Yucca, Soapwort and soap nuts
with environmentally conscious biodegradable synthetic detergents that won't
allow the mineral buildup that happens when using liquid or bar soaps.

WHY DO I MAKE YUCCA SHAMPOO
Truthfully, I make this shampoo for myself. But also, Ziryab's mission is to
find or create products that are healthy for us to use, are as natural as
possible while being easy to incorporate into our lives and help us feel
confident, comfortable and beautiful. My approach to product creation and my
life is trying to balance natural with practicality - each of us are able to
achieve a certain level of naturalness - but I don't think being natural and
healthy should be so difficult that we feel defeated. We need to keep pushing
for healthier options while keeping a balanced perspective on our choices. My
Yucca shampoo formulation is a result of this attitude. I will continue to
research both natural hair care options while using modern preservatives and
synthetics when necessary and/or beneficial.

WHO IS YUCCA SHAMPOO FOR?
For those who want a natural and gentle shampoo, for those who have tried the
no-poo method or tried washing their hair with baking soda and disliked the
result, those who want a shampoo that is more safe for the water supply than
commercial brands and for those who are wanting a gentle shampoo.

WHY IS MY YUCCA SHAMPOO SPECIAL?
This shampoo is an ongoing project and I hope you will understand that I will
continue to tweak the ingredient list trying to balance the needs of us dry
haired people who need conditioning and gentle cleansing with our desire to use
less chemicals in our lives and to eventually achieve no harm to our
environment through our beauty products.

Directions: Expect lower foam with this gentle shampoo. Bottle may require
shaking as no primary emulsifier is used. Wet hair thoroughly and work shampoo
into scalp and through hair. Rinse. Repeat is probably not necessary except
with hard water or oily hair. May not require conditioner depending on hair but
I use either my Apple Cider Vinegar and Rosemary Conditioner, my Conditioning
Bar or my Deep Conditioner. Every month or before I color my hair, I use a
clarifying shampoo to rinse out any build up that can be caused by using
natural gums to thicken the shampoo.

INGREDIENTS:
Yucca, Soapwort & Soap Nut Tea (made with Distilled Water)
Green Tea (made with Distilled Water)
Aloe Vera Juice
Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a biodegradable, non-toxic mild cleansing foam
derived from coconut
Decyl Glucoside, a biodegradable, non-toxic mild cleansing foam obtained from
renewable raw materials, produced by a chemical reaction between fruit sugars
(glucose) and coconut derived ingredients.
Coco Glucoside a readily biodegradable ultra gentle cleanser made from
renewable coconut oil and sugars
Vegetable Glycerin
Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is a non-toxic cleansing and conditioning ingredient
is a type of salt made from natural sources of lauric acid.
Hydrolyzed Oat Protein (made by me). Hydrolyzed means it is broken down into
more usable bits. In this case, I make my own by breaking down the oats with
high alkaline and, then re-balancing Ph with Apple Cider Vinegar. Adds
impressive shine, color protection and moisture.
Apple Cider Vinegar (Organic with the mother) used to smooth hair cuticles and
balance the Ph
Stearic Acid fatty acid and mine is vegetable sourced. An emollient.
Cetearyl Alcohol a fatty alcohol and therefore considered alcohol free as it
is conditioning and not drying.
Essential Oil Blend of Lavender, Rosemary and Peppermint
Argan Oil, a precious oil used on hair.
Shea Butter, a butter used instead of silicone's to smooth hair.
Castor Oil a thick conditioning oil that rinses well, leaving a thin layer of
protection and shine.
Fractionated Coconut Oil, a light oil.
Diazolidinyl Urea (and) Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate a preservative system free
of parabens used at less than 1% (.22%)
Guar Gum as a thickener
Xanthan Gum as a thickener
Vit E works as an antioxidant that helps products (especially oils) stay fresh.
